November is Military Family Appreciation Month
November is Military Family Month; a time to stop and reflect on the service of the families who support our service members. This year, we’ve rounded up a few family-specific benefits that can help military families adjust to their new home here at Ellsworth. You can also read more about the history of how Military Family Month started.
Moving is part of military life, but there’s an easy way to learn about your new home here in the Black Hills. The 28th Force Support Squadron has partnered with the Black Hills Military Advisory Coalition and Black Hills Adventure Tours to provide tours of the local area. Tours include information about the area, areas to shop, general resources, and fun things to do. They are open to all DoD cardholders over the age of 16 and are not open to the public. The Ellsworth Exceptional Family Members Program (EFMP) office hosts events open to all members of Ellsworth. Their classes include topics like parenting during challenging situations and resources available to parents. They also host monthly “Coffee and Chat” meetings for parents to learn about specific topics, as well as provide a craft or activity for littles to enjoy. They’re a great way to meet other families on base and start building friendships.
Similarly, the Airman and Family Readiness Center hosts an event called Heart Link Spouse Orientation. It’s targeted towards spouses who have been married less than 5 years and hopes to “link” them with other new spouses. The hope is to help new spouses adjust to the Air Force lifestyle and connect them with resources. The A&FRC also has resources for families who have a member deployed or TDY for an extended period, and the monthly “Give Parents a Break” day.
